Tania’s work delves into the world of textiles in old dresses and trimmings unused, silk, cotton, yarns, threads and (more recently) ceramics.
The combination of the two is where these mediums express their relationship and contrast.
In clay: rustic, earthy, heavy, rough and immediate.
In textiles , soft repetitive folds and coils .
Both mediums hold memory, which is figuratively at the heart of Tania’s work. While cloth shows mending and repair, things past, with collected materials- the ceramic components show earth, dust, oxides and heat.
Tania also uses these mediums separately. In her textile paintings, essentially studies of what fabric can do and make when you play with them in different ways. In clay - the functional use of pottery and the process of sculpting, glazing and firing.
Tania works out of her studio where she also cuts hair and holds makeup and art lessons for local residents.
